Oh, that's not the half of it. Mr. Stephenson plays at being friendly to the union workers that slave everyday so he can take his 2 week long vacations every month and use his private jet just to take a shit in his private bathroom somewhere in Bermuda. Yeah, the annual report was $119 Billion but did the actual workers see any of that? HELL NO!! He fought the CWA (my union) and IBEW tooth and nail against the contract that was due us! It was settled and it gave us a $3.25 raise, BUT he raised the price of our healthcare which basically makes the raise null and void. Also, he pulled everyone's 401k and played with it on the Stock Market! WTF?? Guys (and Ladies) in my garage were pulling their hair out trying to figure out why their $30k pension and/or 401k is all-of-a-sudden now 0 balance. Thank you Randall Stephenson for perpetuating the cycle of unemployment among the masses and greed for the few. I hope you choke on that cohiba rolled in 100 dollar bills you're smoking.

I think you have a point, but not because folks now in their 60s are retiring. I do agree that you want to focus on the prime earnings years of 25-54, to elide changes in youth unemployment and retirement age.

Turns out it's just as ugly, if not uglier, but it's not available as a quick-and-easy FRED2 chart. You have to hit the BLS tables. Employment-Population Ratio - 25-54 yrs. was 62.6% in January, 1948, back when women did not work. That ratio hit a local peak of 80.2% in early 1990 and troughed at 78.1% in 1993. It stayed above 81% from July 1997 to March 2001. It hit a local peak of 80.3% in January, 1997.

It is currently a little over 75%.

It's ugly out there.

Fucking greed pig. ALL of these corporate CEO's are sucking the very life out of this country.

Okay, self-made millionaires? Not likely. These scum reek of nepotism, inheritance, etc. They wouldn't know work or an honest day's pay if it bit them in the ass. Like Lloyd BlankFIEND of Goldman-Sachs, this bastard believes he is actually worth 18 million dollars (2009???)

Mr. Stephenson, enjoy your glory days. The masses are fed up with greedy bastards such as yourself. I wouldn't be in your shoes for all the MONEY in America when the masses fight back. Like short haircuts do you?

This chart may be misleading, reflecting not just a change in economic conditions, but a demographic change. People born between 1945 and 1950 are now in their 60s, and retiring. I would like to see the chart with population 18-62 as the denominator. Best would be a chart of employment of 25-55 year old people divided by 25-55 year old population.

It's a PNG, which format most programs I think can handle. Right click and save image. Enjoy, but please credit me if you reuse it.

More tractable perhaps would be to recreate the chart from the source data in whatever format you prefer. The Z1 release (click through the chart) has the household RE assets numerator, research.stlouisfed.org (among other places) has GDP, census.gov/hhes/www/housing/hvs/hvs.html has units and bls.gov will give you CPI ex-shelter.

What collateral? A market maker's collateral is some rapidly depreciating computers and some software. If he blows up, the software must have been useless and the computers will be worthless tomorrow.

But yeah, I can see Bernie selling it as regulatory arbitrage. Like AIGFP that makes me itch, but there's no business more profitable than cashing those government checks while they last.
